Cherished Moments

"A happy family is but an earlier heaven."  George Bernard Shaw

Mother's Day

The Teahouse on Los Rios ~ a belated birthday tea for Mom/Nanny

Mom and Dad finally met their newest great-grand daughter, Kirra.

The month of May has always been a celebratory time for our family because we have multiple birthdays, Mom and Dad's wedding anniversary, as well as Mother's Day. This year we were especially grateful to have Mom with us to mark another birthday ~ her 77th, Mom and Dad's 54th anniversary and Mother's Day too. 😊 Yippee skippee!

I love the quote at the beginning of this post: "A happy family is but an earlier heaven." I'm glad Shaw didn't say, "A perfect family" since there aren't any of those on earth. We are definitely not perfect; but happy?... yes indeed! There are certain aspects that come to my mind when I reminisce about our get togethers. The first is the feasting. So.much.food! Second is the lively [aka loud] conversation and laughter. It is a joy to be part of the Rupp family.

Another thing I love is that family and community are God's idea. From the very beginning when He declared, "It is not good for man to be alone." (Genesis 2:18) What an invaluable gift to have the support and encouragement of friends and family. Amen? I can not even imagine how difficult it would be for Mom and Dad without the blessing of community: family, friends and neighbors.

Tomorrow marks the eleven month "anniversary" of Ann's GBM diagnosis. It has been a roller coaster for certain and I admire my mom even more as I have watched how she has responded to the many, many challenges which accompany brain cancer. She has maintained a sweet demeanor and keeps a positive outlook, even though we know she often isn't feeling that great.

Updates and Prayer Requests:
  • Mom will be having her next MRI on Thursday, June 8. It was originally scheduled for the 20th but there have been some concerning symptoms with Ann so sooner is better than later. Please pray for the MRI to be read ASAP.
  • Prayers for speedy results/answers from an ultrasound performed on Thursday, June 1st. (The lack of communication and follow through from some of Ann's physicians has been really frustrating.)
  • Prayers for my Dad. For strength and encouragement. It's such a hard "journey" for both of them. 😔
  • Prayers for continued provision for caregiving. Thank you!
  • We will be participating in a neighborhood garage sale on the 17th. Prayers to sell lots of items.
Grateful for a wonderfully supportive family!
Terrie
